No plans for holiday? Switch your apartment!

Very common way of spending holiday is exchange houses. People from totally contrasting countries and habits, are meeting on line and decide to stay for few weeks in each other flats. Usually, they don't know chosen town at all, they don't speak the language, but often friends of host are helping with adaptation. This way of vacations is mostly popular in Esperanto circles, then language barrier is not a problem. Two students of this language, PaweĊ‚ of Szczecin and Salman from Istanbul switch their apartments. Let's hear what each one has to say about staying for 2 weeks in exactly different country.
Salman's story

My name is Salman, I'm 34 years old, and I came from Istanbul, Turkey. I was living at Pawel's house for 2 weeks, and it was my first visit to Poland. At the beginning, when I came, I was surprised about the weather, it was very calm night in July, and I was ready to wear jacket. I land at Gdansk's airport and then I take a railway to Szczecin. I was a bit afraid about response on my skin color, I was hearing few worrisome stories about racism of Polish citizens, but it was okay. Two colleagues of Pawel pick me up from main railway station , and they promised me to take care of me during my visit. They also spoke Esperanto, and really good English, so conversations were nice. Next day, at the morning, I had some polish brunch, prepared for my by Pawel's roommate. It was delicious but very oily - big portionof scrambled eggs with bacon and plenty of onion, served with white bread and butter. Later, I went to old town to see few of heritages (here). I like European buildings, it so different then Muslim one. Szczecin has a lot of building raised in 19th century, few Middle-Aged and Gothic churches and charming parks and squares. The most I liked post office building, it looks similar like one of Harry Potter movie. other part of my holiday I spend driving along seacoast, tasting regional cuisine, meeting new, generally friendly citizens. I really like my stay in Poland.

Pawel's story

Hi, my name is Pawel, I am from Szczecin, I am 30 years old. I was staying for two weeks in Istanbul, in apartment of my colleague, which I met at Esperanto convention. I was really exited about my tour, I heard that Turkey is very interesting place. I was living in big, snugapartment in the middle of old town. I was observing morning bustle, while eating breakfast at balcony. I was charmed by Istanbul. It is very adorable place, with interesting history, and very chummy people (find out). First week I spend exploring the city, not just ancient town with heritages, and spectacular Arabic architecture, but also new town with tallest skyscrapers I have ever seen.

I spend 2 days at few of local beaches, and it was to much people, but the temperature was gorgeous. Second week I was driving with my backpack trough some small villages, knowing about culture, habits and language of citizens. It was very important experience for me.

Switching apartments during holidays is a very good experience, but only for courages ones. Some tourists may be worried about strange person staying in their flat, but if you find your host on special website, you are saved. So select your host wisely, and have fun during your vacations.
